A wee note

I have always been drawn deeply to portraiture in clay. The challenge of capturing the complexity and unique spirit of each sitter is one I never tire of. Each sculpture begins with close observation but my aim is always to go beyond a simple likeness. The conversation during the course of a sitting reveals the story and the character and I always strive to weave some of this lived experience into the finished work.

Whether commissioning a sculpture for personal, commemorative, or public purposes, I handle each project with the same intent – to capure spirit as well as likeness.

Posthumus

The creation of a portrait from a handful of reference images can be a demanding task.  The execution of a posthumous bust that offer more than just a likeness is one of my greatest joys. Years of working this way have given me a solid understanding of the physical form of the human head and it’s sometimes subtle individuality and the aim is always to preserve the essence of the subject ensuring a lasting legacy.
